Towards climate neutral and climate robust inland shipping – Online community session

Inland shipping is facing the challenge to become at the same time climate neutral (zero emissions) and climate robust (dealing with extreme low and high waters). On Tuesday, May 10th (10.00 – 12.00 CET) SmartPort organizes an online community session on this theme to update the community on the latest insights from practice and research.

The Program
In relation to zero-emission shipping, Femke Brenninkmeijer (CEO NPRC) will address the opportunities and challenges of building the ms Antonie, the first inland ship on green hydrogen. Followed by pitches from Frederik Vinke, Man Jiang and Solange van der Werff (PhD candidates from the Ports & Waterways section at TU Delft) on their research to scale up the insights on climate-neutral and climate-robust shipping from a single ship to an entire inland waterway corridor.

Johan Boon and Migena Zagonjolli (Deltares) will present how these scientific insights are/will be implemented and disseminated in the “Digital Twin for inland shipping” to bring this information to practice. Finally, Dr. Alex Kirichek will present the research gaps that will be addressed for zero-emission inland shipping in the NWA Path2Zero proposal, that was recently submitted to the Dutch Research Council.

We invite you to this community session to listen to the latest insights and provide feedback on these developments & plans so that we together can make the next steps towards climate neutral and climate robust inland shipping!

Join us and . We will see you online!
