SmartPort is committed to protecting your personal data. We respect your privacy and you can trust us to handle your personal data with due care. Your data is processed in full accordance with European and Dutch privacy laws.

What data does SmartPort process?
In order to properly exercise its role as an innovation hub in the Port of Rotterdam, SmartPort’s system contains contact details of individuals working at collaborative partners, requisitioners in our projects and various stakeholders. When organising events, conducting surveys and/or publishing obtained survey results, it is sometimes necessary to process personal data. The following data is recorded within SmartPort: initials, first name, gender, fax and phone number, email address, your organisation and your job title. Upon signing an agreement, the data necessary to properly execute the contract is recorded. SmartPort also collects personal data when you visit our website.

SmartPort processes personal data based on your consent in accordance with Section 6(1)(a) of the GDPR/AVG (General Data Protection Regulation (EU) / Algemene verordening gegevensbescherming (the Dutch implementation of GDPR)). In some cases, SmartPort processes personal data in the context of legitimate interest in accordance with Section 6 (1)(f) of the GDPR/AVG.

Why does SmartPort process your data?
We use this data to:

  • manage relationships and maintain contact with you;
  • inform you about various topics, including news about surveys or events;
  • enter into agreements with you, or execute ongoing contracts;
  • secure and optimise our website.

The processing of personal data serves a legitimate interest (processing data for security purposes) or is based on (explicit) consent of the person concerned.

Providing data to third parties
We only share your personal data:

  • if it concerns a legal obligation;
  • with a vendor that processes your personal data on behalf of SmartPort. In this case, the supplier is a Processor;
  • when jointly organising an event.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

How long we keep your data
We will not process your personal data any longer than necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy and cookie statement. This means that your personal data will be retained for as long as it is needed to achieve the relevant purposes.

Third party websites
The website may contain references (for example, by means of a hyperlink, banner or button) to other websites that relate to a specific aspect of our website. This does not automatically mean that SmartPort is affiliated with or is the owner of these other sites. The use of third-party websites is often subject to a different privacy statement. This privacy statement only covers personal data obtained by SmartPort. SmartPort cannot be held liable for (the operation and/or content of) third-party websites.

Right of access, correction and deletion
Do you want to know which personal data SmartPort has stored about you? You can request access to your own personal data. In order to protect your personal data, a SmartPort employee will contact you to verify your identity and the request. You can also submit a request to us:

  • for correction or deletion of your personal data;
  • to limit the processing of your personal data;
  • to object to data processing;
  • relating to data portability.
  • A request for inspection, correction and/or deletion, restriction and objection should be submitted in writing. To process such requests, we may ask you for identification. Our contact information is:
